Huatulco Travel Guide
Welcome to Huatulco, located in the state of Oaxaca. A paradise situated on the Southern, Pacific Coast of Mexico, where nine stunning bays surrounded by brilliant, indigo waters are found. The imposing Sierra Madre del Sur is the backdrop and the 36 pristine beaches offer a paradise, secluded from the rest of the world, by 21,000 hectares of lush, tropical vegetation.
Until the early 1980's, this group of nine interlocking bays, consisted of only one isolated fishing-village, with no water or electricity and was solely accessible by a dirt path. In 1983 the first luxury hotels and a six-lane road network were built, soon followed by an airport, golf course and marina. But for the moment, Huatulco remains pleasantly undeveloped. So far, there are three developed bays: Tangolunda which is the most exclusive, Chahue which is still embryonic and Santa Cruz, where development is clustered around the marina.
The development of Huatulco is, however, carefully planned, focusing heavily on the preservation of the natural surroundings and environment, coupled with a great respect for the regional architecture and history. Come visit and see for yourself why Huatulco is fast becoming a world renowned destination and a paradise on earth.
